First and Forever

With the onset of Winter comes the opportunity for new footwear. Call that ridiculous but that is how I can reconcile the forthcoming loss of the heat and light of Summer (what we’ve had of it) into bitter cold and darkness.

Dr Martens, as if they knew, have launched their new campaign for A/W11 to make me salivate and separate me from my money. The First and Forever campaign celebrates the fact that everyone remembers their first pair of Dr Martens (I for one still sport the blister scars from breaking in my favourite pair of 3 eye 1461s), and Dr Marten invites you to share these stories and more with them for a chance to win a pair from their new range.

The campaign features an androgynous Agyness Deyn photographed in hazy warmth and a style imbued with a ‘This Is England’ feel without the violence.

After missing out on the velvet versions of these beauties a couple of seasons ago, there is no way I am not getting my hands on some of the ponyskin 3 eyes. They won’t be my first pair, but i’ll certainly love them forever.

Stay tuned for inevitable further coverage on such delicious footwear.

Doc Martins S/S11

I am in Love with DM’s S/S11 offerings, a beautiful combination of what are typically perceived as quite tough, ‘workwear’ shoes and a new, more delicate pastel colouring.

Part of the print collection, these ‘Grey Tapestry’ 3 eyes are so lovely with their tiny velvet ribbon as laces and carpet bag-esque fabric print.

The Strap Platform Sandal

I was watching Jawbreaker the other night and developed another 90’s style crush. Big black strappy, block-heeled platforms. You know, the type of shoes the girls wear walking in slow-motion down the school hallway in any late 90’s/early 00’s American teen movie like Clueless, 10 Things I Hate About You, Never Been Kissed etc..

Note the pair on the girl in the white dress below in this prom scene from She’s All That.

Yes they’re more clogs but Gina’s in Empire Records are good too..

The dream pair has heels that are clunky and square, with thick straps that go up the ankle, exactly like these:

So far I have found one suitable pair, but they’re not exactly what i’m after. At a push i’ll settle for a clunky mary-jane, but i’m not giving up just yet…

Maybe a bit like these too…

Office for the Office

As you many have already figured out, i’m in the market for some mid-level heeled shoes that are suitable for wearing to work but at the same time, can be worn trekking to meetings and up the escalators at Tottenham Court Road.

I am enjoying some major shoe loving with Office:

I acutally have an identical pair of these bow pumps that I bought from a vintage shop a couple of years ago, but after wearing them to death and destroying their heel I can finally replace them.

I like the shoes on the left because they’re the ideal combination of current shoe trends; studs, wooden heel, lace-up and brogue, and they’re not too high and they look comfortable enough to wear on the commute.
